Meet some of our family and learn more about their roles

Jane, administration officer

I am a proud Torres Strait Islander woman. I enjoy working in an environment that provides care and support for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders in our community. I gravitated towards this type of work because I was caring for my family at the time and through this experience, I related to the work that Pinangba was delivering.

Kate, hospitality officer

I am a proud Quandamooka woman. I am passionate about looking after our Elders in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. I love nothing more than developing connections with our elderly residents to understand their dietary needs. It is important to me that our team provides a culturally safe environment for our residents.

Sally, registered nurse

I am a proud Jagera woman. It makes me happy seeing the positive impact I have on the clinical needs of the residents. I can see I make a difference in their lives. I came into health care as a personal carer after caring for my mother. I then decided I wanted to be a Registered Nurse and went on to complete the required study.

Learning and support

  • Through our Indigenous Experience Initiative program, Elders village employees studying a Certificate III in Individual Care; Certificate III in Business Administration; and Certificate IV or Diploma in Nursing, can use their work time to attend study.
  • At our alcohol, drug and family services, employees are provided with training and ongoing learning opportunities, with the ability to use work time for study such as a Certificate IV in AOD and Mental Health, as well as diplomas and graduate certificates.
  • Our managers and clinical leaders are accessible and available to providing coaching and mentoring.

As part of the UnitingCare family and operated by BlueCare, Pinangba’s vision for Reconciliation is to be culturally responsible and committed to social justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
