Celebrating the people who shape BlueCare - Julie Mason
At BlueCare, our story is built on the dedication of people who choose to spend not just years, but decades, helping others live with dignity, comfort and care. When someone devotes their career to our mission, it’s more than just time served.
In this series, we’re proud to share the journeys of staff who’ve dedicated their careers to BlueCare. Their stories are part of our legacy — and our future.
Meet Julie Mason - Revenue Assurance Manager Residential – 45 years of service
‘Understanding your purpose will guide you and help you thrive.’
How did your journey with BlueCare begin?
I was actually on a holiday cruise in New Zealand when I found out about the opportunity to join BlueCare. I was called to the Captain’s Office to receive a telegram and I ended up having an interview at BlueCare the day after I returned!
When I was offered the Blue Care admin role that same day, I thought, “Aged Care? I’ll give it six months.” Forty-five years later, I’m still here!
What have been some of the highlights of your 45 years with BlueCare?
The highlight has been the incredible residents, clients, families, and staff I’ve worked with. I’ve helped set up new facilities, including Kallangur Aged Care, and managed relocations from Redcliffe to Rothwell. I was part of the first Customer Service Centre team, which transformed how we onboarded clients and streamlined the customer journey across Queensland.
What are some of the challenges you face in your role and the aged care sector and how do you overcome them?
Aged care is complex, even for those of us who work in it every day. Success comes from strong, adaptable teams who take pride in helping clients on their journey. I’ve always believed in building teams that support one another and maintaining work–life balance. I also feel very passionate about recognising and nurturing the incredible talent we have across Queensland. There are a lot of incredible people at BlueCare.
What keeps you coming back each day?
To say I love a challenge is an understatement! I learn something new every day (whether I remember it is another story) and that keeps me going. My roles have let me share my experience while learning from team members with new skills and ideas — that mix keeps the work exciting and meaningful.
With 45 years in Aged Care, what would you say to those considering a career with BlueCare?
Hopefully, we’ll all get the opportunity to grow old, so my legacy is to make that journey as seamless as possible. I’d encourage anyone considering a career with BlueCare to do the same. Working in such a large organisation offers incredible opportunities, but it starts with knowing your “why.” Understanding your purpose will guide you and help you thrive.
