Yhurri Gurri! Pinangba’s Ny-Ku Byun Elders Village sits in the Aboriginal community of Cherbourg, where the local council motto, One Community, Many Tribes, is seen every day in our village.
Ny-Ku Byun, which means ‘Our Home’, is a hidden gem in the countryside, providing high-quality aged care to a diverse community, with an extended family tree of dedicated employees, respected Elders and welcomed visitors from all walks of life.
The history of Cherbourg weaves a tapestry of clans and tribes from all over Queensland and further afield. It is a place where we work together in harmony, as a family, providing care to our Elders. We employ First Nations people from the local community, who know our residents on a personal level.
Everyone is friendly and welcoming at Ny-Ku Byun, with a very happy, home-like atmosphere. Food is cooked fresh on site. We offer comfortable rooms and several shared areas for Elders, including dining rooms and a nice garden space with a fire pit. Our site-owned bus takes regular trips to Kingaroy, and picnic spots.
Our Elders are an important part of the community, with regular invitations to the historical Ration Shed Museum, and visits from the local day care centre children. We are close to community amenities, including shops, medical services, community services, entertainment, parks, church, playground, and taxis.
Our services are delivered by Pinangba, an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander group of services, where family and belonging are at the heart of everything we do. We are part of the UnitingCare family and operated by BlueCare. To find out more about life in an aged care home, read BlueCare’s Resident Information Book.
