How do I access help at home services?

If you are under 65, contact Blue Care on 1300 258 322 to discuss your needs and how you can access our services.

If you are 65 and over and want to access Government subsidised services, your first step is to book an assessment by contacting My Aged Care.

Assessors will discuss with you what help you need and how to go about accessing help at home. Once you are approved for care, you may start accessing services with Blue Care or a service provider of your choice.

How do I know if I’m eligible for government subsidised help at home?

To determine if you’re eligible for help at home, you will likely go through the following steps:

  1. Contact My Aged Care (either yourself or your Doctor can do this) on 1800 200 422 or visit
  2. Initial phone interview with a My Aged Care representative
  3. Referral to an assessment team – either a Comprehensive Assessment with an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) for a Home Care Package or an entry-level care assessment for Home Support with the Regional Assessment Service. In some circumstances, they may also refer you to straight to an in-home help service provider like Blue Care.
  4. Assessment will be done in person to determine your support needs, and determine if you are eligible.
  5. Nominate Blue Care as your preferred service provider
  6. Blue Care will contact you to arrange a meeting with one of our team to develop a support plan.

My mum is struggling to prepare her own meals at home. Do you have a meal delivery service?

Blue Care offers clients a range of options for meal assistance and food preparation. We can organise delicious meals delivered from Meals on Wheels or support and encourage you to prepare and cook fresh food in your own home.

What can I do if my loved one doesn’t want to move into an aged care home?

We understand that older people can feel apprehensive about moving out of their home. This is often seen as a major change and can bring about a lot of fear and concern. Older Australians see living in their own home as a form of independence and being able to still manage. Sometimes though, they still need a little assistance to make things a little easier.

In an effort to do everything they can to help their loved, families think the only aged care option available is an aged care home. However, if someone’s care needs mean that they can stay in their own home then it is encouraged that they stay.

Aged care providers like Blue Care have services that are designed to meet individual needs and to meet someone’s changing care needs. It is often the simple day to day tasks that someone needs help with like cleaning the house, getting to and from the shops or even some minor modifications to the house to allow someone to move around easily and safely in their own home.

Your loved one can access help at home (often called in-home care) and many older Australians may be able to access funding from the Australian Government or their State Government.
