Brisbane mum Daniela Kerr has turned her uncertainty about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) around by using new technology, being one of the first to trial disability provider BlueCare’s pre-planning app.

When Ms Kerr was first notified that she could apply for the NDIS on behalf of her 10 year old son Harrison who has autism, her feeling was one of overwhelm.

“I was a little bit lost at the start,” Ms Kerr said.

“The NDIS journey for Harrison is really important because it will help him achieve a number of goals over the next 12 months including transitioning to a new school.”

Ms Kerr said she heard about BlueCare’s NDIS pre-planning app at a free information session and decided to give it a go because the digital planning could be saved and returned to at any time.

“The app prompted me to pinpoint goals, upload paperwork and I was able to invite family members into the process so everyone could view the information,” she said.

“I felt a lot more confident having all our documents and information in one place and the local area coordinator praised me at my meeting for being so organised!

“I’m pretty sure if I didn’t have the app I would be going in there only half organised and forgetting all my paper work.”

Ms Kerr said her advice to anyone starting their NDIS journey was to access help, ask lots of questions and spend the time doing the pre-planning.

“It was all new to me, but there are plenty of free information sessions and apps out there that demystify the process,” she said.

“I felt the BlueCare app really helped me get clear on what was required which will ultimately benefit Harrison.”
