BlueCare are proud to have been awarded the palliative care tender from Queensland Health to deliver important in-home palliative care to people in regional, rural and remote areas of Queensland from October.

In a joint statement, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Health Minister Yvette D’Ath announced that BlueCare have won the tender to deliver care across 9 hospital and health services in regional Queensland.

“BlueCare had a proven record as a palliative care provider, with the capability to operate in regional, rural and remote areas” Ms D’Ath said.

“This $55 million will fund new community-based palliative care initiatives to increase home-based and after-hours care across 9 Hospital and Health Services.

“We want to ensure Queenslanders can exercise genuine choice at end of life and die with dignity,” she said.

The introduction of in-home palliative care services will allow patients the peace of mind to be cared for in the comfort of their own home.

Commencing in October, BlueCare will be delivering in-home palliative care through the hospital at home program in the following regional areas:

  • Wide Bay
  • Cairns and Hinterland
  • North West
  • Townsville
  • Mackay
  • Central West
  • Central Queensland
  • Darling Downs
  • South West

“This $55 million will fund new community-based palliative care initiatives to increase home-based and after-hours care across nine Hospital and Health Services.

“BlueCare will provide holistic palliative care including home care support, bereavement and support services, telehealth and on-call and 24/7 nursing care, depending on the stage of a person’s illness and the care needed as they approach end of life,” Ms D’Ath said.

Cathy Thomas, Group Executive of Aged Care & Community Services at UnitingCare said “we are proud to be able to expand our palliative care services, alongside Queensland Health.”

“Every Queenslander deserves the peace of mind to be able to receive quality palliative care in the comfort of their own home.”
