People experience grief in many ways. The grief and loss journeys relating to bereavement and dementia can bring intense feelings of sadness, confusion, anger, guilt and fear, as well as memories of happier times. BlueCare’s Grief and Loss programs provide extra support and a safe environment in which to share these journeys of grief and loss.

Our groups

Our groups take the form of group meetings conducted with trained facilitators, who provide emotional, social and practical support for group members. We find participants benefit from sharing their experiences in the safety of a small group. Find out about our groups below.

Grief and Loss for Loss of a Loved One

At BlueCare, our free Grief and Loss program has been operating since 1990 and is open to anyone who is experiencing grief through the loss of a loved one. We aim to:

  • Provide information on the grief process, stages of grief, and the individual nature of each journey.
  • Offer practical advice following the loss of a loved one.
  • Provide emotional and social support.
  • Provide effective coping skills.

In this structured program, you will meet in a group of up to eight people for two hours a week over eight weeks.

  • Increase knowledge about dementia.
  • Provide an understanding of needs and responses to grief and loss.
  • Validate feelings within the journey.
  • Provide support or strategies for wellbeing.
  • Promote self-care and resilience.

In this program, you will meet with a small group of people for two hours a week over five weeks.

Donate in memory of a loved one

Giving in memory can be a thoughtful way to continue supporting a cause your loved one cared about, a recognition of the help they received in later life, or simply a way of being there for others.

A gift in memory of your loved one will help BlueCare provide compassionate care when and where it's needed most. This can be through programs like our grief and loss groups for people who have a loved one living with dementia as they navigate their journey.

We understand that this can be a very personal decision and appreciate you choosing BlueCare to honour your loved one’s life.
