Helping You Find the Right Retirement Village in Bundaberg – Meet Leo from Argyle Gardens
Getting to Know Your Retirement Living Consultant – Leo
Tell us a bit about yourself – where are you from and what brought you to this role?
Hi, I’m Leo. I’m originally from Brisbane but have lived in country Queensland for over 30 years now. I love the country lifestyle and the people—honestly, I was never meant to be a city boy! Before working in retirement living, most of my career was in shopping centre management.
How long have you been helping people find the right retirement living option?
I started in retirement living back in 2002 after returning to Bundaberg, and I haven’t looked back since. It’s been a rewarding journey.
What do you love most about working in retirement living?
Number one is definitely the people. Meeting new residents from all walks of life keeps every day interesting. Secondly, it’s being able to guide people through what can be a big and emotional decision—leaving the family home, which in many cases has been part of their life for decades.
What makes the villages you look after special?
Argyle Gardens was the first retirement village developed in Bundaberg around 40 years ago. We now have generations of residents living here, and many new residents have family members who once called Argyle Gardens home. That strong sense of community often inspires others to join.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
Unlike traditional real estate, we’re on-site every day. That means we get to know our residents well. The gratitude people express after settling in and knowing they’ve made the right decision—that’s truly priceless.
Do you have a favourite memory or moment from working with a resident?
One lady spent 12 years and many visits thinking about retirement living before finally making her decision to move in. When she did, she was absolutely over the moon—her relief and excitement were unforgettable.
When someone is starting to think about retirement living, what advice do you give them?
I always encourage people to think about what’s prompting the move. Is it getting harder to maintain your property? Are you feeling isolated, especially if you no longer drive? Or maybe you’re looking for a stronger sense of community. Those reflections can really help clarify the next step.
What’s your approach when helping someone choose a village?
I always begin by asking how we can help. From there, I really focus on listening—to understand their wants, needs, and any concerns—so I can guide them toward the best fit.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I’ve got a few hobbies: photography, health and fitness, and most of all, reading. I enjoy diving into a wide range of topics.
How can people best get in touch with you to learn more or arrange a visit?
You can reach me directly on 07 4191 9119 or via the Argyle Gardens website. I’d be happy to answer any questions or book a personal tour of our wonderful village.
