Carlyle Gardens Townsville Raises Over $6,000 for Cancer Council at Sold-Out Biggest Morning Tea

The residents of Carlyle Gardens Retirement Village in Townsville transformed the Carlton Theatre into a vibrant gathering place for their sold-out Biggest Morning Tea, raising an outstanding $6,000 in support of the Cancer Council.

Over 200 tickets were snapped up, the event was a true celebration of community spirit, welcoming not only residents but also families from outside the village to take part in the event. Guests enjoyed a morning filled with homemade treats, raffles, warm conversations, and heartfelt generosity.

A standout of the event was the raffle of a beautifully handcrafted quilt, which was proudly on display at the village reception. Guests also received goody bags courtesy of BreastScreen Queensland, promoting the importance of early detection and regular screening.

Adding a wonderful intergenerational touch, hospitality students from Kirwan State High School volunteered their time and talent, serving attendees and gaining valuable real-world experience.

The success of the day was made possible by an extraordinary team effort. Special thanks to:

  • Elaine Yallop and Lyn Foley, who led the charge with event planning and were supported by an amazing team of resident volunteers who set up, packed down, and helped everything run like clockwork.
  • Sue Joyce, Dayne Watson, and Linda Laundess (Emergency Response Attendant Caretaker), who assisted Senior Village Manger / Chef, Geremy Tilley took the reins in the kitchen to prepare, cook and clean, and Cathryn Croton who assisted Geremy in orders and supplies —a mammoth effort by all that ensured everyone was well-fed and cared for.
  • All those who donated gifts in support of the day.
