BlueCare’s Argyle Gardens Bundaberg has won the People’s Choice Award at the 2026 Property Council of Australia National Retirement Living Awards, reflecting strong support from residents and the wider retirement living community.

Residents say the revitalised village has become a more connected and enjoyable place to live, with improved shared spaces encouraging social activity and interaction.

Home to nearly 500 residents, Argyle Gardens has been recognised for its vibrant community life, strong social connections and wide range of resident-led activities that support both village life and the broader Bundaberg community.

Resident Lorna Purkis said the decision to move into the village was an easy one after years of visiting a family member already living there and getting to know the community.

“We often visited my sister in her independent living unit and got a real feel for the village and its residents,” Mrs Purkis said.
“Before moving in we attended functions and played cards, and when the time came to retire, it just felt right.”

Lorna said the lifestyle and peace of mind the village provides has been a major benefit for her family.

“To be able to leave the village and know everything is taken care of was a big plus, and our children were reassured knowing there is 24-hour emergency support.”

She said the strong sense of community, shared activities and welcoming atmosphere are what make Argyle Gardens feel like home, along with facilities and spaces that encourage connection.

“Living and mixing with like-minded people, the activities provided and the openness of the village make it very special,” Mrs Purkis said.

Village Manager Jeanie-Maree Hughes said the recognition as a national finalist reflects the dedication of both residents and staff in building a connected and supportive community.

“Being recognised in these national awards is a proud moment for our entire village,” she said.
“It reflects the dedication of our team and the strong sense of community we have built together, supporting residents to live well, stay connected and feel at home at Argyle Gardens.”

The award was presented at the Property Council of Australia National Retirement Living Awards Gala Dinner in Brisbane on 16 June.
