The Aged Care Bill has now officially passed, bringing big changes to how aged care works in Australia. It’s all about making sure older Australians get the respect, care, and support they deserve.

Backed by recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, this new law puts older Australians and their needs first.

Here's what's coming from 1 July 2025:

  • A new regulatory model to keep care safe and high-quality.
  • Improved Aged Care Quality Standards for better services.
  • A Statement of Rights to help clients make informed choices and speak up when needed.
  • The Support at Home program, giving the right care, home modifications, and technology to live independently.

These changes are designed to create a system that works to help older Australians feel supported and empowered.

The new Act also sets out Government responsibilities in funding aged care. Read more about the New Aged Care Bill
