Residential respite care in a Blue Care aged care home supports both you and your loved one by giving each of you a short-term break from your usual care arrangements.

When you or your loved one comes to stay with us at one of our comfortable and well appointed aged care residences, you’ll enjoy a room, meals and 24-hour care. Consider it your home away from home.

Residential respite care is the ideal way to get the care needed for longer periods, such as:

  • After a hospital stay.
  • When your usual carer needs to take a holiday.
  • While waiting for longer-term care arrangements.

Stays are temporary and can range from seven to 63 days in a financial year (subject to ACAT approval) and can be planned in advance or available in emergencies.

While you are our guest, we will do our best to cater to your lifestyle and social preferences. Our aged care homes offer a wide range of activities, from social games to movie afternoons and entertainment. Our menus are delicious, tasty and varied and we can cater for special dietary requirements.

Getting started with residential respite care

There are a few simple steps to accessing residential respite care.

  1. Gain approval: You will need an ACAT assessment, which will provide you with a respite referral code. This can be arranged through My Aged Care (MAC) on 1800 200 422.
  2. Browse aged care homes: Make a list of your preferred Blue Care aged care homes. You can even visit them beforehand to see which ones you like. Ask our friendly customer service team about setting up a tour.
  3. Call Blue Care on 1800 838 929: Let us know which aged care homes you like and the dates you would like to stay, and we’ll confirm availability and costs. We’ll also need your ACAT referral code and Medicare number to get the paperwork started.

A word on costs: A daily care fee is payable for the stay, charged in line with government guidelines (85 per cent of the full, single aged pension). Note: This fee cannot be taken from Home Care Package funding. Call us on 1800 838 929 to find out more.
