One hundred is the new 15 on the scrabble board of life for Meg
Marion White, known as Meg to her friends and family, has been a Redcliffe resident for over half a century and now resides at Redcliffe Aged Care Facility.
When her 100th birthday was approaching, the team set about creating a perfect celebration for the scrabble loving centenarian… a Big Scrabble Birthday Party.
Invites were sent out; and the lifestyle and leisure team set about creating the biggest scrabble board that Meg had seen – and what a board they created.
When Monday 17 January rolled around, Azure Blue residents, along with Meg’s family, friends and some special surprise guests came together to celebrate this milestone occasion.
Along with a special commemorative game of scrabble, Meg enjoyed her scrabble themed cake, and was touched by the flowers, cards, and special wishes she received throughout the day.
While Meg had been an instrumental part of planning the celebration, the team were still able to manage one big surprise.
Meg who was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Airforce (WAAF) for several years, was presented with a Service Award by the President and Chairman of the local Redcliffe RSL.
“To see the surprise on Megs face when they presented her with the service award was priceless,” said Sarah-Brittney, Azure Blue’s Lifestyle and Leisure Coordinator.
“We always celebrate our residents’ special milestones and enjoy putting on events tailored for the individuals. When we see the smiles and happy faces when they see what we can do, makes it all worthwhile”.
In talking to Meg, she commented “that this was the best birthday party she had ever had. The effort that Sarah-Brittney and the team put in, it has overwhelmed me and I am so thankful to everyone.”
