Respite

Carers need support too and a break from their caring roles. Blue Care supports carers through respite services. We provide quality care to people either in their homes or at a Blue Care respite centre, while carers take a break or the time they need to complete daily activities and do the things they enjoy doing.

End of life care

As life’s journey draws to a close, you can be rest assured that your loved one is receiving the care they deserve. Our multi-disciplinary Palliative care teams offer clients the care, treatment and compassion that make the final stages of life more comfortable and less distressing – for your loved one, you and your family.

Wellbeing and education programmes

Blue Care offers a number of wellbeing and education programs run by our experienced allied health and nursing team.

We can offer you or your carer training and support programs to assist you in effectively managing your own condition and care needs, and remain as independent as possible.

A number of our community centres offer courses on specific topics.

Multicultural services

Blue Care understands that people of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities (CALD) may have specific care requirements.

The Blue Care Multicultural Services team works with people from these communities to help them access quality care and services relevant to them.

We also offer aged care providers diversity training and education so they can offer services sensitive to the cultural needs of CALD communities.

Chronic disease management

To assist with your independence, Blue Care offers programs that encourage and support you to proactively maintain long-term health and wellbeing.

We support you in taking positive steps in managing your own health and manage your disease in a way that allows you to continue living your life as fully as possible.

Disability services

If you or a loved one is living with a disability, the Blue Care team provide respite such as holiday camps and activities, social clubs, and also independent living and help at home.

Blue Care also works with carers and families of children with disabilities to develop a transition program to assist in moving from school to adult life.

Indigenous services

Blue Care has specialised, culturally sensitive care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Queensland. Our services are offered across our family centres, respite services and residential aged care.

Blue Care Shalom Elders Village, Townsville

The Village is an aged care home offering 28 well equipped single and short term respite care. All rooms have large en-suites and are surrounded by well-maintained gardens and open spaces.

Aside from providing premium care in a culturally appropriate setting the Village also prides itself on its genuine commitment to making residents feel part of an extended and welcoming community.

Blue Care Star of the Sea Elders Village, Thursday Island

Star of the Sea is set on absolute waterfrontage and has facilities to ensure elders are placed in an appropriate level of care for their needs.

The home has 15 high care beds and 25 lower care beds with individual ensuite rooms for more independent residents.

Blue Care Hollingsworth Elders Village, Cairns

Hollingsworth Elders Village predominantly caters to the unique aged and disability needs of Aboriginal and Islander people, many of who hail from Cape York and surrounding communities.

Our award winning village has 47 beds all located in private individual rooms, the majority with their own ensuite and air conditioning.

Our highly dedicated professionals work tirelessly to provide elders with a place of cultural, spiritual and social harmony.

Set among tranquil leafy surroundings the village has modern state of the art accommodation and facilities to ensure elders are placed in an appropriate level of care for their needs.

Blue Care Stagpole Street Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Unit

The Stagpole Street Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Unit is a residential rehabilitation service that delivers services to predominately Indigenous people who make up approximately 80% our clients. We specialise in catering to the unique needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are suffering from the negative impacts of substance misuse.

Blue Care Cape York Family Centre, Cooktown

Located on a large natural rural property in a picturesque setting 30km north-west of Cooktown, the Blue Care Cape York Family Centre comprises 10 self-contained family homes. The centre and its services have been carefully designed to support Indigenous families who are at risk of breakdown.

Families spend 3-6 months as residents of the centre and receive family therapy and care tailored to their cultural environments, from skilled Indigenous and clinical leaders. They then receive continued support from the centre for 12-18 months as they return to their communities, to help them achieve a stable environment, secure housing and economic independence.

Hospital in the home

Blue Care’s Hospital in the Home (HITH) service provides at home care and support to eligible hospital patients who would otherwise have their treatment in hospital.

The service is available to most age groups and is provided by highly qualified Blue Care nurses who work alongside hospital medical teams.

The service is available 7 days per week with 24 hour support via the phone if any concern arises.

Continence advisory services

We understand the sensitive nature of incontinence, and offer personal and confidential support to people of all ages, including children. Our continence advisors can carry out assessments in the privacy of your home and work with you to help you manage the symptoms and causes.

Dementia support

Blue Care has specialist teams working within our community centres, respite centres and aged care homes who provide specialised care for those living with dementia. We also offer support to the carers of those living with dementia.

Our Memory Support Programs are specifically tailored to people living with dementia. Our model focuses on understanding a person’s interests, their life history, their family and friends in order to offer a unique program of care that is centred on enhancing people’s abilities.

Post-operative care

Blue Care’s nursing team provides post-acute care in the home following a stay in hospital. Our highly qualified nursing team works closely with hospital professionals to develop a care and support plan. This ensures people have ongoing care after their hospital stay to help them get back on their feet as soon as possible.
