Blue Care Toogoolawah Alkira Aged Care Facility staff and residents hosted a luncheon on Tuesday, 23 August to recognise Dr Martii Kahelin’s 25 years of service.
Dr Kahelin, who was involved in the initial fundraising for Alkira Aged Care Facility, has stepped down from providing services at the facility. Dr Kahelin will however, remain in practice both in Toogoolawah and Esk.
Assistant Integrated Service Manager – Residential, Margaret Donnelly said she would like to acknowledge the tireless contribution Dr Kahelin had made to Alkira.
"The care he provided has been greatly appreciated by so many. He has been a vital part of our care network, and will be missed by our staff and residents alike," Ms Donnelly said.
Dr Kahelin said one of the changes he witnessed during the 25 years was when Alkira moved under the umbrella of Blue Care.
"There have also been changes in the demographic of residents, with a greater proportion of higher care residents," he said.
Dr Kahelin said the highlight of his time at Alkira involved the admittance of his mother as a resident.
"The highlight has been a personal one, when my mother became a resident and due to the great care given by Alkira staff, improved immeasurably from a sick elderly woman with little to live for, back to a happy and contented 90 year old," he said.
Services will continue to be provided to Alkira through the Stellar Medical Group.
