Our Care Matters

Supporting people to remain independent for as long as possible is our passion.

Blue Care began life as the Blue Nursing Service in 1953 when our first Blue Nurse, Sister Olive Crombie, started her duties from West End (Brisbane). Since then we have been caring for people who are too sick or too frail to care for themselves, and those who have a disability or need emergency respite. We care for them in the comfort of their own home or in our community and aged care facilities.

Blue Care provides daily living support to more than 12,500 people every day, in the form of nursing, allied health (podiatry, physiotherapy, speech pathology, and occupational therapy), personal care, domestic assistance, respite and social support.

What is Awareness Week?

In June, Blue Care turned communities blue across Queensland and northern New South Wales to celebrate Blue Care Awareness Week.

Blue Care Awareness Week, June 16-22, is a seven day event where our organisation, as a whole, actively promotes its work and services to local communities, businesses, media and relevant government and healthcare stakeholders.

During the week thousands of Blue Care staff, volunteers, clients, residents and community members helped raise funds and awareness for Blue Care.

Residential facilities, nursing allied health, and respite centres as well as regional offices, celebrated the week with a range of activities and events.

Some of these included fun days, luncheons, charity stalls, open days, sausage sizzles, morning teas and lots of entertainment.

Dress Blue Day saw thousands of people dress in blue and donated a gold coin in support of Blue Care and our services.

Over in the southeast corner Blue Care entertained over 300 guests at the Corporate Breakfast, hosted by Channel Ten’s Lexy-Hamilton Smith, with the debate – “Growing old is mandatory, growing up optional”.

Blue Care would like to thank our Awareness Week sponsors; Toyota (Gold Partner), Pickles Auctions, PFD Food Services, Deloitte, Corporate Express (Corporate Breakfast Sponsors) & ABC Printing (Print Partner).

We would also like to acknowledge the support of Australia Post, Chez Nous, Dairy Farmers, Tip Top Bakeries, Australia Beef Company, Solomon Food Group, Coles (Toowong), Home Ice Creams, Morris Surgical, Royal on the Park, and Suncorp.

Congratulations Queensland for helping make
Awareness Week a success!

If you were unable to take part in our Awareness Week activities, you can still help make this a better world for people who are struggling with age, ill health or medical crises by making a donation to our proud Queensland service, organise a ‘Dress Blue Day’ at work, school or social club or purchase special “Ollie” branded merchandise.
