Q. What can I do about my child who wets the bed?
A.

  • check that your child is not constipated because sometime this causes bedwetting
  • check that your child does not have a urinary tract infection (ask your GP to check)
  • monitor what the child is drinking, the type of fluids, amount and time consumed, your child needs plenty of water and less sweet drinks, and less fluid before bedtime
  • if your child is older than 5 years and wants to become "dry" then contact the Continence Advisory Service on Ph 07 3343 6288 for further information and advice.

Q. My child still wets their pants during the day what can I do?
A.

  • check that your child does not have a urinary tract infection (contact your GP for review)
  • check for constipation
  • check if they are experiencing any emotional/behavioral problems
  • check fluid intake - types of fluids
  • check with GP for any underlying causes

Q. My Child still soils their pants during the day, what can I do?
A.

  • check that they are not constipated.
  • check that they are having a suitable fluid intake.
  • check if they are experiencing any emotional/behavioral problems
  • visit your GP to check if there are any underlying causes.

Q. I leak urine when I cough/sneeze and sometimes when I get up from a chair/bed is there anything I can do?
A.

  • check with your GP that you don't have a urinary infection.
  • have a professional check for weak pelvic floor muscles (GP, Continence Advisor, Gynecologist)
  • check if fluid intake is enough (at least 8 glasses of water per day)
  • check if you are constipated or have any other bowel problems
  • have you gone through menopause? You may need additional treatment for symptoms

Q. I have an urgency/frequency to keep going to the toilet to pass urine. How can I stop this?
A.

  • see your GP to check if you have a urinary infection or any other underlying causes
  • have a professional check for weak pelvic floor muscles (GP, Continence Advisor, Gynecologist
  • do you have an adequate fluid intake of at least 8 glasses of water per day?
  • are you constipated? A full rectum will place pressure on the bladder
  • have you experienced menopause? Additional treatment may be required to assist manage some of the symptoms/side effects of menopause

Q. I am having problems with my bowels, what can I do?
A.

  • check if you have ongoing constipation
  • increase your fluid intake ( at least 8 glasses of water per day)
  • visit your GP for assessment for underlying causes
  • contact the Continence Advisory Service on Ph 07 3343 6288 for a full bowel management program.
