Cooinda Choir represents Warwick 25/09/2009

Blue Care Warwick Respite Centre’s Cooinda Choir made the trek to Toowoomba to perform at the Q150 Disability Action Week Concert at the Empire Theatre last Friday (September 18).

It was the biggest concert of the year featuring people of all abilities from Toowoomba and Warwick.

Blue Care Warwick Respite Centre Manager Sue Hoopman said 10 clients and six staff sung a collection of Australian anthems, including the National Anthem, I Like Aeroplane Jelly, Waltzing Matilda, Skippy, and Come on Aussie Come On.

"We spent four months rehearsing so choir members were very excited to show off their hard work," Cooinda’s Team Leader of Disability Services Suzi Brazier said. "There were smiles all around on the day."

Baratone Michael Craig said he had never been on stage before, so the lead up was nerve wracking, but exhilarating.

"It was good to have our friends with us on stage, that made it easier," he said.

None of the choir members had ever performed on stage before so it was a wonderful opportunity for them to engage in the community as part of their learning and life skills activities.
