Blue Care Indigenous Program
Following extensive consultations across Queensland, Blue Care developed an Indigenous Care Strategy with thirty recommendations aimed at improving service delivery and establishing ways to make Blue Care a leader in delivering mainstream services to Indigenous clients across the network
The main focus of the strategy was to find ways to improve access by Indigenous clients to Blue Care services. The Strategy recommended that establishing collaborative partnerships
with Indigenous service providers and restructuring the
Blue Care Indigenous employment program would be the
means to
achieving this.
With this in mind, the organization enlisted Indigenous Consultant Mick Adams to review the structure of the Indigenous Employment program. The review found that Blue Care needed to significantly restructure the program to have a greater focus on rural and remote areas. Further, senior Indigenous staff with a joint community development and employment focus should be appointed in key regional centres across Queensland.
The employment component would have an increased commitment to the mentoring and strategic placement of Indigenous staff in meaningful employment.
The community development factor was also seen as a pivotal factor in progressing partnerships between Indigenous providers and Blue Care to improve access by Indigenous people to a range of services which may not currently be available.
Blue Care is particularly committed to enhancing service delivery in rural and remote Queensland and the Indigenous Care Strategy is one of the catalysts for achieving this goal.
Three positions have been created to support our Indigenous workforce and develop programs that are culturally appropriate for Indigenous people, thus increasing access to our services by Indigenous people and through the development of partnerships with Indigenous providers.
